Chapter 26 Drugs Affecting Uterine Motility
1.Objectives
Principles of selection of drugs to augment dysfuncitonal
labor, induce labor and control postpartum uterine haemorrhage.
The pharmacological effects and untoward effects of oxytocin
and ergot alkaloids.
2.Teaching content
(1)Physiological characteristics of uterine muscle.
(2)The pharmacological effects, clinical uses and untoward
effects of oxytocin.
(3)Ergot alkaloids: characteristics, clinical uses and
caution.
(4)The pharmacological effects of prostaglandins on uterine
smooth muscle.
