synthesis, storage and secretion of thyroid hormone. Relationship
to hypothalamus and hypophysis. Action on growth and differentiation
of cells, on energy metabolism, clinical uses and adverse
effects.
Antithyroid agents:
(1)Thioureas: methylthiouracil, propylthiouracil, tapazole,
carbimazole.
Inhibition of peroxidase, blockage oxidation of iodide,
inhibition of iodination of tyrosine, blockage of synthesis
of thyroid hormone. Characteristics of each drug used
to treat hyperthyroidism. Adverse effects and caution.
